Proġett ITAMA

Għeżież ġenituri/kustodji,

Nixtiequ ngħarrfukom bil-proġett ITAMA li qed jiġgi parzjalment iffinanzjat mill-UE parti mill-programm ta’ fondi Interreg Italia-Malta. Dan il-proġett għandu l-għan li jagħmel screeing ta’ 20,000 tifel u tifla Maltin fl-iskejje primarji ta’ Malta. Il-proċess kollu se jsir fl-iskejjel u huwa mingħajr ħlas. Fil-jiem li ġejjin, l-istudenti se jingħataw fuljett li fih informazzjoni fuq il-marda tac-coeliac (Coeliac Disease) kif ukoll formola ta’ kunsens u kwestjonarju b’xi sintomi.

Dear parents/guardians,

We would like to bring our project “ITAMA” to your attention. This project is being partly funded by the EU via the Interreg Italia-Malta program and is aimed at screening 20,000 Maltese primary school students for Coeliac Disease. The screening process will be held in the schools and is completely free of charge for the students. In the next days, the students will be handed out a brochure that contains some information about coeliac disease and a consent form/symptoms questionnaire. Please read the brochure in order to understand the importance of early diagnosis of coeliac disease in order to prevent irreparable damage. For your child to be able to take part in the screening program, you must fill in both the consent form and the questionnaire. Without these, the testing cannot be performed on your child.

The testing shall be in the form of a “prick test” whereby the child will be lightly pricked in the finger and a drop of blood taken to be used in the test kit. Professional nurses will be doing the testing at your child’s school. The testing is planned to be done during the second term of this scholastic year. The result of this test and the information submitted through the questionnaire will be analysed by a medical team from Mater Dei Hospital and in case your child is retained to need further investigation, you will be informed accordingly by them. The data of your child will be held strictly confidential throughout the whole process.

We hope that you will welcome this project and give consent to your child to take part as it was developed for the benefit of your children. Unfortunately studies show that the disease affects about 1 in 100 individuals, however, in the vast majority of cases, it is misdiagnosed. Hence the patients do not receive the correct treatment, which long term results in severe damage to the intestines.

Further information about the project may be found on our website: http://itamaproject.eu/patients-schools/ If you have any queries that you would like to address, please use email us on: info@itamaproject.eu

We would also like to invite you to follow/like our social media pages in order to keep up to date with the project developments: https://www.facebook.com/ITAMAproject/

Thanks in advance,
