Festa San Nikola

Fis-6 ta’ Diċembru kellna l-purċissjoni ta’ San Nikola. Din il-purċissjoni ilha ssir għal aktar minn 10 snin u issa daħlet sew fil-kalendarju kulturali tas-Siġġiewi, tant li ammont sostanzjali ta’ residenti jakkumpanjawna fit-toroq Siġġiwin.

Din is-sena wkoll kellna festa mill-isbah b’numru ta’ tfal li jilbsu ta’ personaġġi fosthom ta’ San Nikola, Basilju, it-tliet xebbiet, il-Granmastru Ferdinand von Hompesch u oħrajn. Barra minn hekk l-istatwa kienet merfugħa mit-tfal tas-sitt sena.

Għall-ewwel darba wkoll fil-knisja saret reċta mit-tfal fuq kitba ta’ Dun Nikol Aquilina.

Nirringrazzjaw lil kull min ta s-sehem tiegħu biex din l-attivita’ setgħet tittella’ b’suċċess  –  Beppe, Agnes u Grace tal-ħjata, Twanny Mifsud, Ganni Bezzina, l-Arċipriet, Fr Chris, il-pulizija, Banda San Nikola, Siġġiewi Festival Brass Band, il-minor staff, Ms Stephanie Zammit, Ms Daniela Baldacchino, Ms Priscilla Vella, Ms Toni Calleja, Ms Marlene Vella u Ms Claire Cardona.  Grazzi wkoll lit-tfal kollha li ħadu sehem.

One Hour Maths Challenge

The very act of working through a difficult problem to find a solution is in itself very rewarding. In fact last Wednesday’s 1hr-Maths Challenge activity was a success.

Children, from Kinder to year 6, were presented with fun, age appropriate challenges. The children were engaged and really enjoyed trying to solve the respective challenges. Enthusiasm and a positive mood prevailed in the classrooms.

Some of the activities were related to real life situations such as sorting, sharing, money and planning. Such activities help children understand the relationship between Maths and everyday life. Maths is not just another subject. It is somethings we deal with on an everyday basis. Other activities were purely numerical. Such activities help generate an enthusiasm for numeracy and master Mathematical concepts.

The activity had various aims related to it. Apart from the learning factor, we wanted to take away the pressure some children feel when working with numbers and thus help make Maths less scary. The feedback received from teachers and students alike was very positive indeed.
