Another Proud Moment for Our School – Green Flag Award

Siġġiewi Primary has managed to acquire the green flag award for the 7th consecutive time. This is a proud achievement for the school since the green flag is an international prestigious award for the success in environmental action and learning.  The award is given for bringing about a marked positive change in the school.

In fact, Siġġiewi primary has been part of the Eco-schools programme for the last 14 years and the green flag award has been renewed for the continued commitment shown in the last two scholastic years.  Throughout these two years the school has worked on the seven steps which form part of the eco-schools methodology such as setting up an eco-committee, doing an environmental review and developing an action plan amongst others.

The actions of the committee led by the children themselves mainly focused on waste management.  The children lead an awareness campaign across the different year groups on sorting waste at school. They also planned and carried out a campaign for the school to stop using disposables and thus cutting down on waste generation.  The main drive here was to stop using disposable cups with all members of staff bringing their own mugs. The children were the protagonists of these campaigns together with other complimentary activities they participated in.  Through their work they managed to bring about a change in the school community. Yet perhaps an overall benefit of being part of the eco-schools programme is that the children are trained to question what is usually taken for granted, to speak up with ideas they might have, to evaluate and plan what can be done and all in all to see themselves as agents of change.

As a school we look forward to continue being part of the eco-schools programme to provide our learners with such opportunities and show our commitment towards sustainable education.

From Our Nurture Class : Helping At Home

Għeżież ġenituri u kustodji,

Nisperaw li tinsabu tajbin.

Wasalna fl-aħħar ġimgħa tas-sena skolastika.  Dalwaqt jibdew il-vaganzi tas-Sajf. Illum qed nibagħtulkom xi riżorsi dwar l-għajnuna li uliedkom jistgħu jagħtu fid-dar. It-tfal iħossuhom importanti meta jagħtu daqqa t’id fid-dar.  Barra minn hekk ikunu qed jitgħallmu jsiru persuni responsabbli.

Grazzi tal-attenzjoni tagħkom.

Tislijiet,

Ms Janice & Ms Claire

Dear parents and guardians,

We hope that you are doing fine.

We have finally arrived to the last week of this scholastic year. Summer holidays are about to start. Today we are sending some resources about helping at home. When children are given chores to do at home, they feel that they are important and that they are valued.  Besides, they become responsible individuals.

Thank you for your attention.

Regards,

Ms Janice & Ms Claire

From Our Nurture Class: Self Esteem

Għeżież ġenituri u kustodji,

Nittamaw li tinsabu tajbin.

Illum qed nibagħtulkom xi riżorsi dwar l-importanza li nemmnu fina nfusna u fil-kapaċitajiet tagħna – self-esteem.  Din hi meta persuna temmen li hi kapaċi u li għandha valur u għalhekk tapprezza u tħobb lilha nnifisha. Meta t-tfal jitgħallmu jirrispettaw lilhom infushom u jemmnu li għandhom potenzjal ikunu persuni li jħarsu lejn il-ħajja b’pożittivita’. Kull attivita’ għandha l-eta’ għal min hi adattata u linji gwida kif tużawha.

Grazzi tal-attenzjoni tagħkom.

Dear parents and guardians,

We hope that you are doing fine.

Today we are sending some resources about the importance of positive self-esteem. Self-esteem is when an individual has self-worth and personal value, as s/he appreciates and likes him/herself. When children learn to respect themselves and believe in their potential they will be happy persons. Each activity has the recommended age group and guidelines as to how to go about it.

Thank you for your attention.
