Tree Planting Activity at Ġnien Albert Fenech

Last Thursday 16th December was a day to remember for Year 3.3 students who spent some hours planting sixteen trees at Ġnien Albert Fenech.  This journey began two years ago when another group of children (who are now in Year 5) sowed Aleppo Pine Tree seeds.  This was done as part of Dinja Waħda Activities. During this particular activity the students learned about the importance of trees in our urban and rural areas and so wanted to make a difference by sowing seeds which eventually grow into young trees and will be planted in our town.  Days, months and years went by and with great care the seeds grew into saplings. In agreement with Siġġiewi Local Council and with the support of our SMT it was decided that the trees will be planted at Ġnien Albert Fenech as there were plenty of empty spaces.  The sowing and planting activities where important learning experiences for both groups of children. These activities fuelled the children’s drive to be more mindful of the actions they do towards the environment. Hopefully, this cycle continues and next year we will have more trees to be planted from sowing that took place last year. We are hopeful that both the town community and our students will benefit greatly from such initiative, both long and short term.
