On the 15th of May 2018, our school was awarded the Dyslexia Friendly School Quality Mark for making our school Dyslexia Friendly. Since then we haven’t stopped working to provide an environment that enables all learners to flourish and reach their full potential. As a school we embrace the use of the word dyslexia and promote a clear understanding of what dyslexia is while encouraging all learners to utilise their strengths and interests. The last week of October was Dyslexia Awareness Week at school. Learners in the early years read and acted out a story. The story was meant to promote discussion on how to respect and celebrate differences in all people. They discussed their strengths and the fact that while we are all good at something, it is ok not to be good at everything. The learners in the junior years learnt what dyslexia really is. They carried out research about dyslexia, found out about famous dyslexics, designed posters and T-Shirts and prepared a special assembly. At the end of the week the learners understood that their peers with dyslexia are not stupid or lazy, but that most of the times they have to work harder than others. We would like to share some of the activities prepared by the learners during this week through this slide show.
