Wormery Workshop

On the 20th November three children from the EkoSkola committee and myself took part in a workshop about wormeries at St Agatha School. We discovered what wormeries are and their benefits. To make a wormery you need to prepare a container with a bed of soil, add the worms and some organic material from the compost bin such as banana skins, eggshells and vegetable peel. Then you cover everything with some hay and close the lid. You must keep the wormery somewhere shady and as close to room temperature as possible. Every now and then you must add organic waste on top. The worms will eat all the organic waste and transform it into compost. During the workshop we put on gloves and the teacher gave us some worms to place in the wormery. Finally, we took the wormery with us to our class. We will add organic waste to it and observe what will happen. During this workshop I had fun and discovered something I did not know about. We shared this information with all the school during assembly.
