Turtle Release Activity

On Tuesday 11th December the EkoSkola committee were invited to join a turtle release at Għadira bay. The moment we arrived we started off with a number of workshops that tackled different issues related to sustainability and sea life. Some of the themes discussed were the different types of jelly fish we find in Malta, saving small sharks caught in fishing nets, caring for our beaches and of course injured turtles. The highlight of the event was then meeting Doris, a turtle which had been in the care of Nature Trust for over two years after it had been caught in plastic. Unfortunately, one of its back flippers had to be cut off but the team at Nature Trust made sure it could still swim and catch fish before releasing it back to the open sea. What a joy it was to see so many children cheering on Doris as she made her way to the sea! Anyone wanting to know what Doris is up to can follow her journey on the Nature Trust Facebook page because thanks to a trekker that she has on her shell we can all follow where she is going. We hope that you will enjoy following Doris as much as us.
